South Lakewood Dental takes great pride in offering many different types of sedation to address every level of dental fear.
Not every Colorado sedation dentist is licensed to offer many levels of sedation. Dr. Stewart and his team have the tools and training to provide both moderate sedation and minimal sedation.
Generally, “sedation” refers to medications used to calm patients and ease anxiety and worry about a dental procedure. Anesthetic is administered to numb the treatment area. While the fear of pain is a significant source of dental anxiety, pain-relieving anesthetic is not designed to relieve worry and induce a sense of relaxation.
Another source of dental anxiety has to do with fears over the sedative drugs themselves and a perceived loss of self-control. While cares melt away as the sense of consciousness is diminished, modern sedative approaches allow Dr. Stewart to safely monitor and adjust sedative levels. Patients remain awake and responsive to instructions.
South Lakewood Dental may recommend oral conscious sedation, another way of saying you will take a pill as instructed by the dentist to induce relaxation. IV sedation involves intravenous administration of anti-anxiety medication. You will go into state of relaxation so deep that you won’t feel or care about what is going on around you, and you will have little to no memory of treatment afterwards.
As a practice built on alternate approaches and dentistry for the quality of your life – all your life, South Lakewood Dental proudly offers Alpha-Stim technology. A non-invasive, easy-to-use medical device safely sends a signal to your brain, modulating the electrochemical signals responsible for anxiety.
